(Ottobrunn) – Last year, 142 hydrogen filling stations went into operation worldwide - more than ever before. In 2020 there were 107. Ludwig-Bölkow-Systemtechnik GmbH (LBST) determined this as part of its annual survey. Accordingly, 37 new gas stations were opened in Europe, 89 in Asia and 13 in North America. There is now a hydrogen filling station infrastructure in 33 countries, according to the company.
At the end of 2021, 685 hydrogen filling stations were in operation worldwide, and there are already concrete plans for 252 additional locations. The developments in Spain and New Zealand are noteworthy, where there were many new concrete location plans for the first time. New additions include Hungary and Slovenia, where a hydrogen filling station each went into operation.
Japan continues to depend on Germany
A total of 2021 gas stations were in operation in Asia at the end of 363: 159 are in Japan (2020: 142) and 95 in Korea (2020: 60). According to the information, the 105 Chinese gas stations recorded are used almost exclusively to refuel buses or trucks. Korea, with 35 new gas stations, recorded the most commissioning in 2021 and is expanding its infrastructure for all fuel cell vehicles.
At the end of the year, Europe had 228 gas stations, 101 of which were in Germany (2020: 100). France remains in second place in Europe with 41 gas stations (2020: 34), followed by Great Britain with 19, Switzerland with twelve and the Netherlands with eleven gas stations.
Of the 86 gas stations in North America, 60 are in California. Eleven new gas stations went into operation there in 2021.
