The German Bundestag will hold a live debate on the Hydrogen Funding Act (HydrogenBG) on November 7. © German Bundestag / Zumbansen
(Germany) The German Federal Government adopted the draft law on the Hydrogen Acceleration Act (HydrogenBG) at the beginning of October ( as we reported ). The Bundestag will debate it on Friday, November 7, starting at 11:20 a.m. This first reading will be broadcast live and is scheduled to last 30 minutes. Following this, the draft will be referred to the lead Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy for further consideration. According to the Federal Government, the aim of the draft is to make relevant approval and procurement procedures faster, simpler, and more digital. The law focuses, among other things, on the entire hydrogen supply chain. It covers, in particular, electrolyzers, import facilities for hydrogen and derivatives, storage facilities, and pipelines. Furthermore, the extraction of natural hydrogen will be facilitated by defining it as a "free mineral resource" in the Federal Mining Act.

(Sweden) Project developer Liquid Wind AB and electricity provider Umeå Energi AB have signed agreements to secure the planned eFuel production plant in Umeå. Environmental approval was granted in January. The project, dubbed "FlagshipThree," will be built in the Umeå Eco Industrial Park and is designed to produce up to 100.000 tons of eMethanol per year. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with commissioning planned for 2028. The plant will utilize residual and waste materials as well as energy from neighboring businesses and is, according to the company, "one of the largest industrial investments in northern Sweden." Another plant with the same capacity is planned for Örnsköldsvik, just over 100 kilometers southwest of Umeå. The Swedish Energy Agency pledged €3,6 million in support just over two weeks ago. Liquid Wind aims to launch ten such projects by 2027. However, the “ FlagshipOne ” project (55.000 tons of eFuels) has since been put on hold. After breaking ground in May 2023, the Danish energy company Ørsted halted the project, which it had acquired, just 14 months later. The reason given at the time was that it was not currently profitable.

Tyczka acquires MPreis Hydrogen's hydrogen activities. © Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH
(Austria) Munich-based industrial gas supplier Tyczka GmbH has acquired MPreis Hydrogen GmbH, the hydrogen division of the food retailer in Völs, Tyrol. This includes a 3,2-megawatt alkaline pressure electrolysis plant from Sunfire SE, a hydrogen refueling station, and a trailer filling station. Green hydrogen production began in March 2022. The future operator will be Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH, the hydrogen subsidiary, which will also retain the existing employees. CEO Frank Götzelmann stated that this acquisition further expands Tyczka's network across national borders and improves the supply of green hydrogen in southern Germany, Austria, and northern Italy. The two family-owned companies already have a long-standing partnership in hydrogen production and marketing. The purchase price was not disclosed. Tyczka Hydrogen also holds a stake in Hy2B Wasserstoff GmbH, which operates an electrolysis plant in Pfeffenhausen, Bavaria. Furthermore, a dedicated hydrogen hub with electrolysis, trailer filling, and a hydrogen refueling station is currently under construction in Schweinfurt , Bavaria.

Dynacert has completed the installation of its HydraGEN technology on five cranes in the Port of Rochefort. © Dynacert Inc.
(France) Canadian company Dynacert Inc. has completed the installation of its HydraGEN technology on five cranes in the Port of Rochefort-Tonnay-Charente (Port Charente Atlantique). According to the company, this is "the first commercial port installation of its kind in France." The technology uses electrolysis to produce hydrogen and oxygen from distilled water. The gases are fed into the diesel engines while they are running, thus optimizing operation. Comparative measurements in Rochefort showed that this reduces CO2 emissions by 20 percent, as well as emissions of carbon monoxide (minus 33 percent), nitrogen oxides (minus 20 percent), and particulate matter (minus 45 percent). The technology also improves engine performance and extends maintenance intervals. The project was carried out in collaboration with IPMD. The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region provided undisclosed financial support for equipping the port's five cranes. According to the company, the global market for port equipment is expected to grow from $19,7 billion in 2024 to $28,3 billion in 2032. Approximately 64 percent of port equipment is diesel-powered.

Bayotec will also supply the city of Lancaster with hydrogen in the future. © Bayotec Inc.
(USA) Bayotec Inc. will supply hydrogen to First Public Hydrogen (FPH2) in Lancaster, California. The company applied for the contract in September. It will support the development of the refueling infrastructure and expand access to clean energy. Just in July, the provider of hydrogen production and distribution solutions announced it was abandoning plans to build a hydrogen hub in Stockton, California, near San Francisco. The company vaguely cited a shift "to a new location in the region" as the reason. FPH2 is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) established by the city of Lancaster. The public utility aims to connect renewable hydrogen producers with consumers who can leverage its decarbonization potential in industries such as shipping and ports, transportation, and energy. Centralized procurement and planning are intended to lower the barriers to adopting hydrogen as an energy carrier throughout the state.
