(Norway) Hydrogen producer Norwegian Hydrogen AS will supply green hydrogen to the construction company Veidekke. Veidekke already operates an asphalt plant in Kristiansund that runs exclusively on this energy carrier, although the source of the hydrogen has not been disclosed. In 2023, Veidekke produced approximately 3.000 tons of asphalt there. The company plans to increase production in 2024. Norwegian Hydrogen is currently installing a green hydrogen production plant in Hellesylt, south of Møre og Romsdal, which will have an annual output of over 400 tons. The plant will go into operation in 2024 and will then supply, among other things, the asphalt plant. Veidekke is one of the largest construction companies and developers in Scandinavia, developing residential projects, maintaining roads, and producing asphalt, crushed stone, and gravel.

(Ireland) The port authorities of Shannon Foynes (Ireland) and Rotterdam (Netherlands) have signed an agreement to develop a supply chain corridor for the export of green hydrogen to Europe. The energy carrier will be produced using offshore wind power. The hydrogen and its derivatives will be manufactured at a planned green energy center at the mouth of the Shannon River. Market launch is expected to begin by 2030. Furthermore, the inclusion of other interested parties in the agreement is being explored, including consumers and suppliers of green hydrogen and its derivatives such as methanol and ammonia.

(France) French green hydrogen producer Lhyfe and the SAF+ International Group (SAF+) plan to jointly produce e-SAF (electro Sustainable Aviation Fuel) from green hydrogen. The port area of Le Havre has been named as the plant location, where Lhyfe intends to build a green hydrogen production facility with an installed capacity of 300 megawatts. The yield is expected to be 100 tons per day. SAF+ will be responsible for constructing the e-SAF plant. Marketing is scheduled to begin by 2030. In July 2023, SAF+ announced the signing of a letter of intent with the Air France-KLM Group for the supply of second-generation e-SAF fuel, with the first deliveries planned for 2030.

H2 Digital wants to connect producers, consumers and distributors of hydrogen. © H2 Digital

(Germany) Launched last year, the "H2 Digital" platform now offers a consolidated overview of the current status of the hydrogen network in Germany and Europe. H2 Digital facilitates open collaboration between stakeholders across the entire hydrogen value chain. Companies can find existing or planned projects and establish partnerships via a comprehensive database of contacts and contact information. The platform enables networking and coordination between hydrogen producers, consumers, and distributors, says Marcus Rübsam, co-founder and CEO of H2 Digital. The platform is publicly accessible and provides detailed information on approximately 300 hydrogen projects, from distribution hubs to individual pipelines. The platform is supported by the Essen-based transmission system operator Open Grid Europe GmbH (OGE).

(Spain) The Scottish engineering firm John Wood Group plc is conducting a preliminary study on the routes of the planned hydrogen pipeline, named "BarMar." The clients are the transmission system operators Enagás (Spain), OGE (Germany), and GRTgaz and Teréga (both France). The scope of work includes examining alternative routes and selecting a pipeline corridor. Societal and environmental impact studies are being carried out by Tecnoambiente, Francom, and Natural Power. BarMar is part of the "H2med" project, which comprises an overland hydrogen pipeline between Portugal and Spain (Celorico da Beira/Zamora) and a submarine pipeline between Spain and France (Barcelona/Marseille). This transnational hydrogen network between the Iberian Peninsula and Northwest Europe aims to supply other European countries with renewable hydrogen by 2030. The project was launched in October 2022 by the President of the Spanish government, the President of France, and the Prime Minister of Portugal. The total budget of the five project partners amounts to 2,5 billion euros, and the transport capacity is expected to eventually reach two million tons.

The next CHP generation of the Dach 2.9 from Senertec is being prepared for the use of 100 percent hydrogen. © Senertec Kraft-Wärme-Energiesysteme GmbH

(Germany) Senertec Kraft-Wärme-Energiesysteme GmbH, based in Schweinfurt, has announced that it will prepare its Dachs 2.9 and 5.5 combined heat and power (CHP) units, starting with the second generation, for conversion to 100 percent hydrogen. The company will offer a cost-effective conversion kit for this purpose, which will be installed by specialist partners. In areas where no hydrogen network is planned, the Dachs allows for the use of alternatives to hydrogen: According to the German Building Energy Act (GEG), a mandatory share of 15 percent green gas is required from 2029, rising to 30 percent from 2035, and reaching 60 percent by 2040 as a blend with natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Senertec systems can already be operated with 100 percent climate neutrality using biomethane or biogenic LPG.
