(Glasgow / Great Britain) – The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) presented jointly developed guidance at the UN climate conference COP26 that will help countries develop a “roadmap” for implementing green hydrogen. This “toolbox” is intended to enable policymakers to prioritize actions and accelerate hydrogen use at the international level.
The first model roadmaps for Europe and Japan, presented at the Global Climate Action Energy Day in Glasgow last week, emerged from a series of consultations with industry leaders and international organisations. They show the ten most important measures and timelines for their implementation in areas such as cost reduction, demand growth, international standards, infrastructure and technology development.
“Green hydrogen must move from its current niche role to a global energy carrier with widespread use across all sectors, and this requires an integrated policy approach,” IRENA Director General Francesco La Camera said at the presentation: “Our roadmaps will help countries chart the path “to pave the way for a global hydrogen market and achieve global net zero targets.”
