In the current market ramp-up phase of hydrogen production, this is limiting Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) the EEG surcharge for the electrochemical production of hydrogen - both in electrolysis with conventional electricity and in electrolysis using renewable energies. Companies in the “manufacture of industrial gases” sector can submit an application to BAFA for a limit on the EEG surcharge by September 30, 2021. The limitation takes effect from the first kilowatt hour and reduces the EEG levy to 15 percent or less, depending on whether other requirements are met.
