The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Hydrogen Europe, an umbrella organization representing the European hydrogen and fuel cell industry and research, as well as national and regional associations in this sector, have signed an agreement for consultancy services. Accordingly, the EU bank will provide financial advice for hydrogen projects submitted by Hydrogen Europe. It also participates in market development initiatives and carries out joint measures to strengthen market presence. According to forecasts, total investment in clean hydrogen in Europe could amount to up to 2050 billion euros by 470.

The German Federal Network Agency With the Energy Industry Act that has now come into force, is taking on new tasks in the area of regulating hydrogen infrastructures. The new regulations are intended to create the necessary framework conditions for a rapid market ramp-up for hydrogen. The operators of hydrogen networks have the option of being regulated by submitting a so-called “opt-in declaration”. Operators of hydrogen storage systems can also declare that access to their systems should be in accordance with the regulations of the Energy Industry Act.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EBRD) and the Ukrainian gas transmission system operator GTSOU want to jointly promote the development and use of hydrogen in Ukraine. An agreement was made to develop the low-carbon hydrogen sector and hydrogen supply chains.

The Japanese research institution New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) is to develop a model for hydrogen supply in the coastal area of the Kansai region. It is located in the western part of Honshū, the main island of Japan, and, together with the cities of Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe and Nagoy, forms the cultural, economic and political center of western Japan. The study will assess the economic feasibility of hydrogen supply from discharge and storage at the receiving terminal to transportation (high-pressure hydrogen pipeline and liquid hydrogen trucks). The report is expected to be completed by March 2022. The client is the Japanese trading company Marubeni Corporation, the gas supplier Iwatani Corporation (part of the Toyota Group), the consulting company Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC and Nippon Steel Pipeline & Engineering Co. Ltd.
