Thyssenkrupp Nucera receives another order for the 20-megawatt electrolyser “Scalum” © Thyssenkrupp Nucera AG & Co. KGaA
Thyssenkrupp Nucera announces the conclusion of a further agreement to “reserve” its 20 megawatt “Scalum” electrolysis modules with a total installed capacity “in the high three-digit megawatt range”. The unnamed customer wants to use the electrolyzers for a project in North America. The companies agreed not to disclose contract details. In total, there are already orders for more than three gigawatts of power for the Thyssenkrupp modules. So sets H2 Green Steel AB the electrolysers to produce green hydrogen in Sweden. The total output is more than 700 megawatts. Once completed, the proceeds will be used to produce 2,5 million tonnes of green steel per year. Steel production is expected to increase to five million tons by 2030. With the US manufacturer of industrial gases Air Products There is an agreement to supply an electrolysis system with two gigawatts of output for installation in the Saudi Arabian model city of Neom. There is also a 200 megawatt hydrogen plant from Shell in the port of Rotterdam.

The BMDV is launching the third call for funding for environmentally friendly buses. © Now GmbH
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) has launched a new round Subsidies of buses with alternative drives started. Funding includes, among other things, the procurement of hydrogen-powered buses, buses with fuel cells as range extenders, the conversion from conventional to alternative drives as well as the charging, refueling and maintenance infrastructure necessary for operation. Sketches for the project can be submitted until September 10, 2023. The funding is awarded in a competitive process. The directive was notified to the EU Commission with a total funding volume of 1,75 billion euros. According to preliminary estimates, around 5.000 buses with alternative drives could be put on the road. The funding potential of the previous two rounds is just over 4.000 buses from around 120 transport companies.

Gasunie headquarters in Groningen, Netherlands. © Gasunie BV
The Dutch state-owned gas network operator Gasunie BV has begun the announced marketing of underground hydrogen storage capacities. Companies can reserve space in the A14 hydrogen cavern with the Gasunie subsidiary Hystock BV until July 5th as part of a process called “Open Season”. This is “the first of the four caverns that Hystock is developing in Zuidwending for large-scale hydrogen storage,” the company said. The capacity to be reserved consists of a bundle with the components feed-in, transmission and storage capacity. The cavern can store hydrogen with an energy equivalent of 216 gigawatt hours. This amount is comparable to the annual production of eleven offshore wind turbines. Since Hystock needs investment security, they require financial guarantees from interested parties in order to be able to conclude a binding contract. The first cavern is scheduled to go into operation in 2028, the others will follow by 2030.
