The electricity for the planned electrolysis in the USA comes from wind and solar power plants from Total Energies. © Total Energies US
The French energy multinational Total Energy and the Belgian hydrogen company Tree Energy Solutions (TES) want to develop a large-scale plant in the USA to produce “e-Natural Gas” (e-NG), a synthetic gas made from renewable hydrogen and CO2. The plan is to produce 100.000 to 200.000 tons per year. The plant will be owned equally by the companies and operated by Total Energies. The renewable hydrogen is produced using an electrolyzer with an output of one gigawatt. The electricity comes from Total Energies wind and solar power plants with an output of two gigawatts. The green hydrogen is then combined with biogenic CO2 to produce the e-NG. The gas produced can be transported and/or liquefied and then sold like natural gas using existing infrastructure. Feasibility studies are initially planned; the investment decision should be made in 2024. A possible location or cost was not mentioned.

P2X Solutions Oy celebrates the topping-out ceremony for its new factory in Harjavalta, Finland. The foundation stone was only laid in mid-January. According to the information, it is “Finland’s first plant” for the production of green hydrogen and derivative products such as synthetic fuels. The country has a good “chance of taking a leading role in the hydrogen economy if all planned investments are implemented,” says managing director Herkko Plit. The production facility will be equipped with a 20 megawatt electrolysis system and will be completed in 2024. P2X Solutions wants to achieve a total electrolysis capacity of one gigawatt by 2031. In September last year, the European Commission added another hydrogen and methanation plant from P2X Solutions with a capacity of 70 megawatts to the list of important projects of common European interest (IPCEI).

H2X Global is to supply garbage collection trucks and other municipal utility vehicles to the city of Gothenburg. © H2X Global
The Swedish city of Gothenburg is getting hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles (FCEV). According to the information, the Australian vehicle manufacturer H2X Global contracted by Renova AB to supply FCEVs worth 240 million crowns (20,6 million euros). The H2X Global subsidiary H2X Gothenburg AB won twelve out of thirteen categories in a public tender and will procure both 18 and 26 ton trucks, including tail lift tippers, garbage compactors, hook lifts and crane loaders. The vehicles offer the same range and loading capacity as conventional fossil fuel-powered vehicles. Renova AB, a municipal waste management company owned by ten municipalities in western Sweden, will be responsible for operating these vehicles. Development is planned for the next three years. The contract stipulates that the vehicles must be assembled in Sweden. In addition, Renova will open a hydrogen filling station to be built by the Norwegian developer and operator Hynion AS by the first quarter of 2024. H2X Global has offices in Australia, Malaysia, India and Europe.

H2 Green Steel and Mercedes-Benz agree to supply steel for Europe and North America for car production. © H2 Green Steel AB
Mercedes-Benz wants to produce around 50.000 tons of steel annually from the future plant, which will be powered by green hydrogen H2 Green Steel AB in northern Swedish soil, which is currently under construction. The steel will be used for the automobile manufacturer's European production. The agreement also includes the recycling of steel scrap. The companies have also agreed to cooperate on the long-term supply of the Mercedes-Benz plants in North and South America with green steel produced in North America. The Swedish steel manufacturer recently had the Approval for the operation of the new plant, which is scheduled to be completed by 2025.

From 2024, Power Cell Sweden will deliver fuel cell stacks with an output of 100 kilowatts each to Zero Avia for converting aircraft to hydrogen engines. © Zero Avia Inc.
Robert Bosch GmbH is responsible for the Swedish Power Cell AB Produce fuel cell stacks of the “S3” type. Power Cell is thereby significantly increasing its production capacity and is concentrating on scaling the assembly and delivery of fuel cell systems as well as the development of the next generation of stacks. Last year the company signed a number of supply contracts. The British-American Zero Avia Inc. alone, which specializes in electric aircraft engines, is scheduled to receive a total of 2024 units with 5.000 kilowatts each over a period of five years starting in 100. The stacks will be used to produce a 600-kilowatt powertrain for a 19-seat fuel cell-powered airliner. Power Cell and Bosch began working together on the industrialization, production and sales of the “S2019” in 3. The agreement gives Bosch the exclusive right to manufacture and sell Power Cell S3 for use in the automotive market. Power Cell itself has the rights for all other applications. Bosch produces in Germany and delivers tested and activated 100-kilowatt fuel cell stacks to the Power Cells factory in Gothenburg.
