(Voikkaa / Finland) – The Belgian chemical company Solvay SA has signed a ten-year power purchase agreement with the Norwegian state energy company Statkraft for the “Pajuperankangas” wind farm in Finland. This makes it possible to supply the Voikkaa site entirely with electricity from wind energy, according to the company. “This contributes to the decarbonization of hydrogen peroxide production there.” Solvay Peroxides aims to achieve carbon neutrality worldwide by 2040, said Marco Giannuzzi, Business Director EMEA.
The “Pajuperankangas” wind farm was developed by the Hessian ABO Wind AG and is currently under construction. The 14 turbines with an installed capacity of 86,8 megawatts are scheduled to be connected to the grid in autumn 2023.
The Finnish Solvay Chemicals Finland Oy has been producing hydrogen peroxide for bleaching applications in Voikkaa since 1972 and is a strategically important location for the group. Statkraft offers power purchase agreements for industrial and commercial companies as well as for project developers and investors in order to finance the construction of new renewable energy power plants.
