(Owińska, Poland / Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic) – The Czech transport company Dopravní podnik města Ústí nad Labem signed a framework agreement with the Polish vehicle manufacturer Solaris Bus & Coach for the delivery of up to 20 hydrogen-powered buses of the “Urbino 12 hydrogen” type. The agreement is valid for eight years, during which the Czech city of Ústí nad Labem (German: Aussig; North Bohemia) can access the quota. Once the order has been received, the vehicles would be delivered within 420 days from the signing of the respective purchase contract.

This is the first order for Solaris for hydrogen-powered buses in the Czech Republic, the company said, but not the first collaboration with the city. 44 Solaris buses with different types of drive are already in use there.

350 kilometers with one tank

The hydrogen buses are delivered with two integrated electric motors with an output of 125 kilowatts each, fuel cell modules with an output of 70 kilowatts and five composite hydrogen tanks with a total capacity of 1.560 liters. The range with one tank of fuel is at least 350 kilometers. A small Solaris battery is installed to support the fuel cells during peak power requirements.

The Urbino for Ústí nad Labem has a tire pressure and temperature monitoring system, as well as passenger counting, a system for the visually impaired and USB charging sockets on each row of seats. There is also air conditioning with a CO2 heat pump.

According to its own information, Solaris has so far concluded more than 100 contracts for its “Urbino 12 hydrogen” buses with customers from Austria, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Italy. Since September 2018, Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z oo to the Basque manufacturer of rail vehicles CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles).
