(Baar / Switzerland) – The Swiss aviation startup Sirius Aviation AG is currently working on a hydrogen-powered vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The company states that by "utilizing jet aerodynamics with the versatility of airplanes and helicopters," it achieves "longer flight distances, impressive speeds, and high altitudes at a virtually silent level."

Sirius is currently planning two specifications: The "Business Jet", designed for three passengers, is a zero-emission hydrogen-powered VTOL business jet with a flight range of 1.150 miles (1.850 kilometers), a cruising speed of 323 miles (520 kilometers) per hour, and a possible altitude of 30.000 feet (9.000 kilometers) and a noise level of 60 dBa. The “Millennium Jet”, in contrast, offers space for five passengers. This has a flight range of 650 miles (1.046 kilometers). The information on cruising speed, altitude capacity and noise level are identical to the “Business Jet”.

On Wednesday (January 17, 2024), Sirius Aviation AG wants to present the “Electric Ducted Fan Propulsion” propulsion system at Payerne Airport, Switzerland, and ignite it publicly for the first time. Both versions of the Sirius jet are scheduled to take off from the ground in 2025.

According to the information, the jets are being developed together with Designworks (BMW Group) and the Swiss Sauber Group, known from Formula 1 motorsport. Also involved are Alfleth Engineering AG (Switzerland), the ALD Group and Leonardo Aerostructures.
