(Beijing / China) – China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has launched its first hydrogen project in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The project, called “Inner Mongolia Erdos Wind-Solar Green Hydrogen,” will “leverage the rich solar and wind energy resources in the Erdos region to produce green hydrogen,” the company said.
Sinopec is building a wind farm with an output of 450 megawatts and a photovoltaic power plant with an output of 270 megawatts, as well as the infrastructure for power transmission, hydrogen production through electrolysis, hydrogen storage and hydrogen transport. The planned annual production capacity is 30.000 tons of green hydrogen and 240.000 tons of green oxygen. The hydrogen storage capacity is 288.000 cubic meters. According to the information, the investment costs amount to 5,7 billion yuan (773 million euros).
The gases are intended to reduce carbon emissions from coal processing at a neighboring ZTHC Energy project. Sinopec sees itself as China's largest hydrogen producer.
