(Kuqa / China) – The China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) reports the final completion of its photovoltaic power plant, which was commissioned in July, for the direct use of solar power for the production of green hydrogen. The location is the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwest China. The installed capacity is 300 megawatts and the yield is forecast at 618 megawatt hours per year.

The hydrogen is produced in the “Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen Pilot Project” and, according to the company, the annual capacity is 20.000 tons. As reported, the facility has a storage capacity of 210.000 cubic meters. 28.000 cubic meters of hydrogen per hour can be transported via pipeline to the refinery of Sinopec's subsidiary Tahe Refining & Chemical. The group wants to replace the hydrogen previously produced in the refinery using fossil fuels, which would save 485.000 tons of CO2 annually. In addition, the energy source will be used to supply more than 100 hydrogen filling stations in the country, which Sinopec plans to install and operate.
In February, Sinopec started building another green hydrogen project. After completion of the project called “Inner Mongolia Erdos Wind-Solar Green Hydrogen”, 30.000 tons will be produced there annually. According to Sinopec, further projects are currently in the planning phase.
