Siemens Energy will build a plant to produce green hydrogen in Beijing's Yanqing district. The gas will be used as fuel for local public transport during and after a major sporting event in 2022. Siemens has signed a corresponding agreement with Beijing Green Hydrogen Technology Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Power International Development Ltd.

According to the company, the megawatt green hydrogen production plant is the first of its kind to be built by Siemens Energy in China and is scheduled to be completed in May 2021. Technical and financial details were not disclosed.

In September 2019, Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the development and comprehensive use of green hydrogen with State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), the majority shareholder of China Power. Both sides plan to further expand their cooperation on green hydrogen projects, it is said.
