(Wesel) – The logistics service provider Richter Transport GmbH & Co. Logistik KG wants to work together with the US truck manufacturer Nikola Corp. and the energy company Eon SE are building a green hydrogen infrastructure. The aim is to convert the entire diesel fleet with more than 160 vehicles “in the next four to five years” to hydrogen-powered electric trucks of the “Nikola Tre” type.

Medium-term potential for 750 Nikola trucks

According to the information, the Richter Group is initially ordering 20 Class 8 vehicles (from 15 tons). The range is 800 kilometers. Delivery is scheduled for 2024. In addition, the company will work with its logistics partners to convert their fleets to Nikola's zero-emission vehicles. Nikola puts the potential at 750 vehicles in the medium term.

Both hydrogen supply and logistics are provided by a joint venture between Nikola and Eon. According to the information, Eon is providing green hydrogen and is initially developing a 700 bar refueling infrastructure along with hydrogen transport logistics on the Richter company premises in Wesel.

The Nikola Tre in the European 6×2 variant are manufactured by the joint venture between Nikola and the Iveco Group at the Ulm plant. The Richter group can rent the vehicles via Iveco's “all-inclusive” model (GATE, Green & Advanced Transport Ecosystem). Iveco will then provide all essential maintenance and services.
