Jülich. The federal government wants to support energy research with a new “Hydrogen Technologies Research Network”. The network is managed by the Jülich project management agency on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). Experts from industry, universities and research institutes should be able to exchange ideas. The focus is on application-oriented energy research and practical transfer. The aim is also to promote cross-sector work in the areas of electricity, heat and transport.
Six topic areas are currently being proposed: production of hydrogen and derivative products, storage, infrastructure and transport, use and utilization, standardization and quality management as well as higher-level technologies (such as safety technology and meters).
Because of the cross-departmental importance of the topic of hydrogen, the Federal Ministries of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and Education and Research (BMBF) are involved. The research network will also be part of the “Hydrogen Technologies 2030 Research Offensive,” which strategically bundles relevant research projects.
The network will be officially presented in a digital launch event this Wednesday, September 30th, under the leadership of the BMWi. In this context, the BMWi's consultation process on the call for funding for hydrogen technologies in the energy research program is also starting, which will be published this year. Members of the hydrogen research network will subsequently have the opportunity to take part in the consultation process. Registration for free membership is now possible via the newly created Hydrogen Research Network website.
