(Latham, NY / USA) – The US fuel cell manufacturer Plug Power Inc. has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with wind power and solar project developer Apex Clean Energy Inc. from a 345 megawatt wind farm. The proceeds are intended to supply a new hydrogen production plant directly and entirely with renewable energy.

According to the company, the plant, which is being developed jointly by Apex and Plug Power, is the first hydrogen production in the USA to be powered by wind power. Once operational, it is expected to produce more than 30 tons of clean liquid hydrogen per day, enough to fuel more than 2.000 light commercial vehicles or more than 1.000 heavy trucks.

The cooperation that has now been decided is based on an agreement from September 2020. Plug Power's goal is to produce around 2025 tons of green hydrogen per day by 500. By 2028 it is expected to reach 1.000 tonnes per day. Apex Clean Energy develops, builds and operates wind, solar, storage and green fuel technologies in North America.
