(Latham / USA) – Plug Power Inc. has commissioned what it claims is the largest liquid green hydrogen production plant in the USA. The plant, based on PEM technology, was installed within 18 months at its Woodbine site in the US state of Georgia. It has a production capacity of 15 tons per day.

Water is separated into hydrogen and oxygen by eight 5-megawatt electrolyzers. The gas is then condensed at a temperature of minus 423 Fahrenheit (minus 217 degrees Celsius) and delivered in liquid form to customers' hydrogen filling stations using cryogenic trailers via Plug's logistics network.

The plant is conveniently located near Interstate Highways 95 and 10, providing easy access to commercial and industrial centers. Plug Power wants to build a vertically integrated green hydrogen ecosystem as a “one-stop shop”. This includes production, liquefaction, storage and transport of the energy source.

The company has been operating a gaseous hydrogen pilot plant in Georgia for over a year using Plug's 5 MW electrolyzer platform.
