(Harjavalta, Finland) – P2X Solutions Oy's green hydrogen production plant in Harjavalta, Finland, has commenced commercial operation. It has a capacity of 20 megawatts. CEO Herkko Plit says this marks "a leap for Finland's green hydrogen economy from plan to reality."
The foundation stone was laid in January 2023 and the topping-out ceremony was held in June of the same year. The electrolyzer was supplied by the German company Sunfire GmbH and installed in February 2024. P2X Solutions and the energy group Fortum recently signed a contract to purchase green electricity with a term of five years until the end of 2029.

In June 2024, the Swiss energy group Alpiq acquired 54,9 percent of the company as part of a capital increase. In October 2024, P2X Solutions commissioned the Swiss technology group ABB to install the "ABB Ability Optimax" energy management system for its large-scale plant for the production of green hydrogen and synthetic methane in Harjavalta. The methanation plant is to be commissioned at a later date. A few months earlier, P2X had signed an agreement under which Enersense International Plc would be responsible for operations and maintenance services. Enersense has been a co-owner of P2022X Solutions since February 2.
Target: One gigawatt by 2031
P2X Solutions is also planning hydrogen production plants in Joensuu (40 megawatts) and Oulu (100 megawatts). The aim is to achieve a cumulative production capacity of one gigawatt by 2031. Green hydrogen could "achieve significant emission reductions by replacing fossil fuels," says Herkko Plit: Fuel legislation will "require significant changes in shipping, aviation and industry, among others" in the coming years.
