(Aachen / Kassel) – Thanks to a cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology IEE, we can now offer you a direct link to the interactive Power-to-X Atlas on our homepage.

For example, land resources and weather conditions are taken into account and brought together, as are factors such as local water availability, nature conservation and investment security. Data about regional solar radiation and wind power potential can be accessed at the click of a mouse - for example to estimate the yield of photovoltaic and CSP systems as well as wind farms.

As part of a research project, the scientists have compiled, analyzed and prepared the global location conditions for the production of green hydrogen as well as for regeneratively produced synthetic fuels. They concentrated on locations outside the European economic area.

According to the analysis, a total of around 109.000 terawatt hours (TWh) of liquid green hydrogen or 87.000 TWh of synthetic fuels (Power to Liquids, PtL) could be produced there in the long term. One of many findings: It is often more cost-effective to produce fuel for the European market directly where the green hydrogen is produced, rather than transporting it to Europe first.

Have fun exploring and discovering!
