The Norwegian government is promoting three new projects that include both green hydrogen using renewable electricity and blue hydrogen using natural gas with carbon capture. According to the Business Portal Norway, the three companies will receive 38 million Norwegian crowns (3,5 million euros).

The electrolyzer manufacturer NEL ASA will receive 16 million crowns for “the final step” in the development of an alkaline electrolyzer. The aim is to offer cost-effective, large-scale hydrogen production “that can cope with rapid fluctuations that will occur due to the variable production of renewable energy,” according to the portal. The research project is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2020 and last until the third quarter of 2022. The US car manufacturer Nikola Motor recently commissioned the Norwegians to supply electrolysers worth $30 million (we reported).

The cable manufacturer Nexans AS will develop a combined supply chain for the energy transmission of electricity and hydrogen underwater. The project is a collaboration with Sintef Industri.

Aker Solutions AS is developing technologies to produce hydrogen from natural gas that is relevant to Norway's commitment to comprehensive CO2 management, including through Northern Lights, the post says.

The Business Portal Norway has been providing information about Norway as a business location and the country's economic relations with Austria, Switzerland and Germany since 2016.
