(Austin/Texas) – U.S.-based Hyliion Holdings Corp., provider of electrified drive solutions for semi-trailers 15 tons and above (Class 8), has introduced a truck with an electric range extender powertrain that it says can run on a variety of fuels, including hydrogen, Natural gas, propane, ammonia and conventional fuels. The company expects the new development to have “improved fuel efficiency and a significantly lower emissions profile” than conventional drives.
Further development and testing
The vehicle, called “Karno,” has now been presented to visitors at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo (ACT) in Anaheim, California. The truck will now be used for further development, testing and validation. Hyliion acquired the technology from GE Additive in August last year.
According to Thomas Healy, founder and CEO of Hyliion, the company's current focus “continues to be on the 2023 market launch of the Hypertruck ERX”, an electric range extender powertrain powered by (also renewable) natural gas. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Hyliion designs, develops and markets electrified powertrain solutions for installation in large commercial trucks.
