(Oslo / Norway) – Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a Norwegian manufacturer of electrolyzers, has announced two orders received in recent days with a sales volume of around 20 million euros. According to the information, the largest Portuguese chemical company Bondalti Chemical has signed a contract to supply 40 megawatts of alkaline electrolyzer equipment worth around eleven million euros.

Hydrogen for the Portuguese natural gas network

The products are intended for the first phase of the “H2 Enable” project at the company's headquarters in Estarreja, Portugal. The electrolysis, scheduled to be operational in early 2026, will inject green hydrogen into the natural gas network, power long-distance transport and meet Bondalti's own hydrogen needs for chemical processes.

The strategic goals include significantly integrating green hydrogen into the value chain in order to decarbonize current operations, says Nel CEO Håkon Volldal. According to André de Albuquerque, COO of Bondalti, 40 percent renewable energy is already being used in operations, and 2030 percent is planned by 100.

According to Bondalti, the project was classified by the European Commission as an IPCEI project (Important Project of Common European Interest). The total investment volume in Estarreja is around 140 million euros.

20 megawatts for Hyd'Occ

Just a few days earlier, Nel had received an order from Hyd'Occ to supply a 20 megawatt electrolyser worth nine million euros. The device is used for a project in Port-La-Nouvelle, France. Nel had already carried out the FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) study for this.

The electrolyser will provide renewable hydrogen for local industry and transport in the south of France. According to the information, Port-La-Nouvelle should be expanded into a hub for hydrogen in the Mediterranean region. Hyd'Occ is backed by main shareholder Qair, a French producer of renewable energies and hydrogen, and AREC Occitanie, the regional agency for the energy transition. Delivery is scheduled for the end of 2023.
