(Konin / Poland) – The municipal transport company Miejskie Zakłady Komunikacji (MZK) is using the first hydrogen bus in Poland's local public transport in Konin. The vehicle is leased from the Polish vehicle manufacturer Solaris Bus & Coach SA. The “Urbino 12 Hydrogen” is expected to cover around 300 kilometers a day in the city, located about halfway between Frankfurt (Oder) and Warsaw, on weekdays and Saturdays and 200 kilometers on Sundays and public holidays. Refueling takes place using a mobile station on the premises of the ZE PAK SA power plant. “The city of Konin is opening a new chapter in the history of public transport in Poland today,” says Solaris managing director Javier Calleja on the occasion of the handover last weekend.

According to Magdalena Przybyła, CEO of MZK Konin, “many transport companies and transport authorities responsible for public transport in Poland are already waiting for our experience”. Some cities in the Silesian metropolitan area wanted to purchase 20 vehicles of this type. Poznan, around 100 kilometers northwest of Konin, is planning to purchase 25 hydrogen buses - Krakow even plans to purchase up to 150.
