(Baar, Switzerland) – Swiss company Sirius Aviation AG has signed contracts with Indian seaplane airline Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt Ltd. (MEHAIR) for the initial delivery of 50 Sirius Millennium Jets. An option exists for an additional 50 aircraft. According to the company, the order is worth approximately $400 million (€368 million).

Alliance for the Indian market

“The merger with Sirius Jet is a significant step for Indian aviation and promises passengers luxurious yet economical travel without emissions,” said Siddharth Verma, Managing Director of MEHAIR, commenting on the agreement. The strategic alliance “lays the foundation for a greener future in air travel,” says Alexey Popov, CEO of Sirius Aviation AG.

The jet is a hydrogen-powered vertical takeoff aircraft (VTOL, Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing). The range is 1.150 miles and the top speed is 323 miles per hour (mph). As part of the agreement, MEHAIR will also oversee the assembly of 50 jets in India, the integration of powertrains and the construction of ten hydrogen production units, among other things. For this purpose, assembly lines would be set up and franchise models would be designed for sales and customer service. MEHAIR will also be responsible for managing the certification process for Sirius Jet products in India and the development of a green hydrogen infrastructure in the country. The airline also wants to plan and operate “Verti-Ports” and develop training programs for the operation and maintenance of the Sirius Jet fleet.

Two jet versions by 2025

The jet is slated to launch in two versions by 2025 : The "Business Jet," designed for three passengers, will be a hydrogen-powered VTOL business jet, while the "Millennium Jet" will offer space for five passengers. Just this past January, Sirius unveiled and publicly ignited its "Electric Ducted Fan Propulsion" propulsion system for the first time at Payerne Airport in Switzerland.

Sirius Aviation AG was founded in 2021 by an aviation family and is based in Switzerland. MEHAIR is India's first and only seaplane company and has been operating nationwide since 2011. The company is headquartered in Mumbai.
