(Guildford / Great Britain) – The German-British company Linde Plc has put its fifth liquid hydrogen plant into operation in the USA after two years of planning and construction. The La Porte, Texas, site will deliver over 30 tons of liquid hydrogen per day, complementing existing facilities in California, Alabama, Indiana and New York.

The liquefier sources the hydrogen from Linde's approximately 600-kilometer-long Gulf Coast pipeline, which is fed by more than 15 hydrogen production sources. According to Linde, the product will be delivered to customers in the transportation, mobility, aerospace, manufacturing, metals, energy and electronics sectors.

It was not explicitly stated from which sources the electricity for hydrogen production comes. Jeff Barnhard, Vice President South Region at Linde, explained that “this facility will make the supply chain more efficient and meet increasing demand for both conventional and clean hydrogen.”

According to its own information, the technology group has the largest liquid hydrogen capacity and the largest distribution system in the world. The company also operates the world's first cavern for storing high-purity hydrogen and has a pipeline network of around 1.000 kilometers in length. Linde has installed almost 200 hydrogen filling stations and 80 electrolysis systems worldwide.
