According to its own information, the manufacturer of industrial gases already generates sales of more than two billion dollars (1,7 billion euros) with the production, sales, storage and use of hydrogen. “Given the expected investment plans of more than $100 billion, I think our hydrogen business could quadruple in the future,” Linde boss Steve Angel told the news agency dpa. He sees “enormous potential” for the use of hydrogen, especially in mass transport trucks, trains, buses and ferries.
Group profit rises to $1,1 billion
According to the figures now published, group sales in the third quarter were 6,8 billion dollars (5,7 billion euros), two percent below the comparable period of the previous year (6,9 billion dollars) and seven percent above the previous quarter. Volume sales of industrial gases rose by six percent. Operating profit for the third quarter was $969 million (815 million euros; Q3 2019: $1.000 million). Adjusted operating profit of $1,5 billion was 1,1 percent higher than in the same quarter last year. Profit rose by eight percent to $0,9 billion (XNUMX billion euros) compared to the third quarter of the previous year.
The main sales drivers were the “Americas” region (North, Central and South America), with a share of 28 percent of sales figures, followed by EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and the APAC countries (Asia-Pacific). The company recently announced its entry into the production of hydrogen from renewable energy in California (we reported).
