(Nantes / France) – French hydrogen producer Lhyfe and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar) plan to jointly advance the production of green hydrogen in Europe. Under an agreement, they intend to explore cooperation and investment opportunities across the entire green hydrogen value chain, with a focus on the development of large-scale projects.

Masdar hopes to tap into the European market. The company is committed to "driving the development of green hydrogen worldwide and we believe that Europe will be a key player in the future green hydrogen sector," says Chief Green Hydrogen Officer Mohammad Abdelqader El Ramahi. The collaboration with Lhyfe will help "explore ways to accelerate development and support our ambitious growth plans."
Masdar aims to install 2030 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 100 and become a leading producer of green hydrogen. The company aims to produce one million tonnes of green hydrogen or its derivatives annually in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and globally within a decade. The UAE aims to triple the world's renewable energy capacity by the end of this decade.
Green hydrogen with digital proof
Just a few days after the agreement, Lhyfe announced its collaboration with the Munich-based tech start-up “Atmen” (Point Twelve Energy GmbH). Together, they want to develop a “digital product passport” to mathematically break down the CO2 intensity.

This would allow customers to track the supply chain of green hydrogen from production, through processing and logistics steps, to delivery. Buyers would have full transparency regarding the origin of the energy source. The companies want to start at the French Lhyfe hydrogen factory in Bouin, Brittany (Pays de la Loire region) and then expand the process to other Lhyfe locations.
Founded in 2019, Lhyfe has four green hydrogen production sites in Europe and several more plants under construction. The project pipeline reportedly includes a total installed capacity of 9,5 gigawatts.
