(Gothenburg / Sweden) – The Swedish project developer of synthetic fuel production plants, Liquid Wind, plans to develop and market ten additional eMethanol plants in the Nordic countries by 2027. The investment decision should be made by 2026.
The company began building a consortium back in 2020 to reduce time, costs and risks in the development and execution of Core eMethanol Plants (CMP). The aim is to use methanol to reduce CO2 emissions in sectors that are difficult to decarbonise, such as the shipping industry.
FlagshipONE with 50.000 tons capacity
The commercial eMethanol plant developed by Liquid Wind, called “FlagshipONE”, is to be built in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, by the Danish energy supplier Ørsted. The groundbreaking took place in May of this year. When FlagshipONE begins operations in 2025, the plant will produce around 50.000 tons of e-fuel annually.
Liquid Wind is planning a further 80 plants, each with 100.000 tonnes of eMethanol units, by 2030. According to the company, an expansion of the partnership will enable “an increase in production efficiency in order to further advance planning and execution. The group of investors includes Alfa Laval, Carbon Clean, Elyse Energy, HyCap, Siemens Energy, Topsoe and Uniper.
