(Sande, Germany) – Danish investor Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners P/S (CIP) and Friesen Elektra Green Energy AG have launched the "Anker" project. The consortium plans to produce green hydrogen in Sande, Lower Saxony, on the North Sea coast. According to the company, the initial electrolysis capacity will be 400 megawatts (MW), enabling the production of 80,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. A later expansion to 800 MW is planned.

Strategically favorable location

The project is strategically located near the future energy and industrial center of Wilhelmshaven and thus close to the planned German hydrogen core network. The electrolyzers would be operated with renewable energy from the power grid, supported by offshore and onshore wind power as well as solar energy.

Three H2 pipelines to industry

According to a project description by Friesen Elektra, the 21-hectare site is directly connected to several high-voltage power lines. Three hydrogen pipelines will one day serve industrial sites such as the chemical industry in the Ruhr region, steel production in Salzgitter and copper smelting in Hamburg. To ensure a consistent supply, the hydrogen will be temporarily stored. Salt caverns a few kilometers from the future "Friesland Hydrogen Park" are suitable for this. The aim is to install a total output of 2,4 gigawatts there, according to Friesen Elektra.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners was founded in 2012 and is now one of the world's largest investors specializing in renewable energies. The funds it manages focus on offshore and onshore wind power, photovoltaics, biomass, energy-from-waste, transmission and distribution, capacity reserves, storage, bioenergy and power-to-X. The Energy Transition Fund I (CI ETF I) has a global development portfolio of around 6,5 gigawatts of electrolyzer capacity.

Friesen Elektra is part of the Gödens Group, originally a purely agricultural company, and is active in the field of renewable energies, hydrogen and green electricity. The group of companies in Friesland now consists of nine companies with six different business areas.
