(Berlin) - The FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag is interested in the potential of hydrogen in the building sector. The MPs would like to know what possible applications there are in this regard. In a small inquiry you also inquire about funding programs (Bundestag printed matter 19/25925).
The federal government decided on the National Hydrogen Strategy (NWS) in June 2020. The aim is to support a rapid market ramp-up and to establish appropriate value chains, it says at the beginning of a 14-point questionnaire. According to NWS, hydrogen and its derivative products “can contribute to the decarbonization of parts of the heating market and thus the building sector in various ways in the long term.” This is particularly important because, according to the Federal Environment Agency, buildings today cause almost 30 percent of CO2 emissions.
Funding and research
Among other things, the FDP would like to know on the basis of which findings the federal government has included the potential of hydrogen for the building sector in the National Hydrogen Strategy. In addition, it should be explained what possible applications exist for the use of hydrogen for residential and non-residential buildings and how any investments in this segment would be promoted.
The research and development of hydrogen in the building sector is also discussed. The group asks what programs and to what extent the federal government is promoting this.
Experience has shown that the response can take several days. Power-to-X will report back when the answers are available.
