Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek has appointed Stefan Kaufmann as Innovation Officer for “Green Hydrogen”. The member of the Bundestag (CDU), who comes from Stuttgart, will help ensure that the goals of the recently presented National Hydrogen Strategy (NWS) are put into practice more quickly and coordinate the associated research and innovation activities.
Under this strategy, priority will be given to hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources. “In order for Europe to become climate neutral by 2050, climate-friendly solutions must be found, especially for CO2-intensive industries,” says the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). At the same time, hydrogen technologies could “develop into a central business area for the German export economy”.
