The European solar industry association Solar Power Europe (SPE), the Wind Europe association and eight companies from the renewable energy sector have launched an initiative called “Choose Renewable Hydrogen”. The associations and companies are calling on the European Commission to “take the right decisions for the upcoming European energy system integration and hydrogen strategy” in order to “use the full potential of renewable energies and fully decarbonise Europe”.

Europe should “prioritize the most efficient, sustainable and cost-effective way to decarbonise its economy amid the Covid-19 health crisis and its economic impact”. Green hydrogen plays a key role in this.

The “Energy System Integration Strategy” and the “Clean Hydrogen Strategy” would be crucial to “determine the right decarbonization paths for Europe,” said Aurélie Beauvais, interim CEO of Solar Power Europe.

In addition to the two associations, signatories to the “Choose Renewable Hydrogen” initiative currently include Akuo Energy, BayWa re, EDP, Enel, Iberdrola, MHI Vestas, Ørsted and Vestas.
