(Germany) The call for proposals for the development of a hydrogen refueling network for heavy commercial vehicles, published by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) in January 2026, received 526 applications with a total funding volume of €455 million. These include 71 applications for refueling stations and 455 applications for vehicles and vehicle fleets. The BMV is providing a total of €220 million for this purpose. The application deadline was June 30, 2026. The National Hydrogen Council (NWR) sees the market ramp-up as "the basis for the development of a basic network of hydrogen refueling stations by around 2030." By then, the establishment of a hydrogen truck fleet of "several thousand vehicles" is considered possible. The selection of projects is now being made based on previously defined criteria . The prioritized applications are expected to receive approval in the second half of the year.

(France) Hydrogen Refueling Solutions SA (HRS), a manufacturer of hydrogen refueling stations, has signed a framework agreement for the maintenance of six stations already installed by its customer HYmpulsion, which is responsible for the Zero Emission Valley (ZEV) project in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The stations are located in Aubenas (300 kg/day), Saint-Égrève (600 kg/day), Vénissieux (600 kg/day), Lyon-Saint-Exupéry (one tonne/day), Malataverne (one tonne/day), and Saint-Priest (300 kg/day). Customer support includes 24/7 monitoring and on-call service, provision of spare parts and intervention within four hours in the event of technical incidents, as well as maintenance. Currently, HRS has 22 maintenance contracts for 31 refueling stations installed, with eight more contracts in the pipeline.

All modules of the 20 MW green hydrogen project have arrived at the Petrobrazi refinery. © OMV Petrom SA
(Romania) The oil company OMV Petrom SA has announced the delivery of the fourth and final module for a 20-megawatt electrolyzer at the Petrobrazi refinery. This will enable the production of approximately 3.000 tons of green hydrogen per year, which will be used, among other things, for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and fuels made from vegetable and waste oils (HVO). The equipment is being supplied by Neuman & Esser GmbH from Übach-Palenberg (North Rhine-Westphalia), while the construction, logistics, component manufacturing, and module assembly work at Petrobrazi is being carried out by local suppliers. Southeast Europe's largest energy company is planning two green hydrogen production plants with a total capacity of 55 megawatts. The components for a 35-megawatt plant will be delivered "in the near future." The SAF/HVO program comprises a total investment of 750 million euros: 560 million euros for the construction of the SAF/HVO plant and 190 million euros for the two green hydrogen production plants.

(Germany) ITM Power plc and Deutsche Bahn subsidiary DB Systemtechnik GmbH have signed a letter of intent for a research partnership to develop, pilot, and test green energy solutions for the transport and infrastructure sector. The partnership will explore the potential of using green hydrogen to decarbonize locomotive, bus, and truck fleets, including the production, procurement, and storage of green fuels for daily operations. The initial step will be to conduct a Front-End Engineering Design Study (FEED) to assess the technical configuration, site integration, operational requirements, and commercial framework for potential applications of ITM's electrolysis technology at Deutsche Bahn sites.

(Algeria) The Algerian state-owned oil and gas company Sonatrach and the Leipzig-based energy company VNG AG intend to continue their collaboration in the field of green hydrogen. According to an agreement, the plan is to establish a supply chain for green hydrogen from Algeria to Europe, particularly to Germany. Initially, the focus will be on feasibility studies for production and transport solutions, as well as an examination of the regulatory, technical, and economic framework for a market ramp-up. This will also include an assessment of the extent to which existing gas pipelines in Algeria could be repurposed for hydrogen transport in the future.

(Germany) The French energy supplier Engie SA, through its subsidiary Engie Deutschland GmbH via the Saarland Economic Development Corporation (gwSaar), has secured a plot of land in Ensdorf, Saarland, and is preparing the permitting process for a hydrogen-capable gas-fired power plant. The project is intended to participate in the capacity auction of the Federal Network Agency under the Electricity Supply Security and Capacity Act (StromVKG). The final investment decision is subject to acceptance of the bid and confirmation of the feasibility studies and the permitting process under the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). Engie is the majority shareholder of the Saarland energy provider Energie SaarLorLux AG.

Ohmium and Hynfra plan to develop green hydrogen and ammonia projects in Mauritania, Jordan, and Oman. © Ohmium International Inc.
(Poland) Ohmium International Inc., a US manufacturer of modular proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, and Hynfra PSA, a Polish developer of green hydrogen and ammonia projects, plan to jointly promote hydrogen production in Mauritania, Jordan, and Oman. The cooperation agreement primarily covers the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase. Ohmium will also provide technical support. The projects are designed to enhance energy security in these countries by building domestically used clean energy capacities and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, while simultaneously providing green ammonia for export, including to European markets. According to Ohmium, it has a two-gigawatt global pipeline of green hydrogen projects across three continents. Hynfra has an office in Hamburg and project pipelines in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

(Germany) Germany and Australia are deepening their existing hydrogen cooperation. As part of a joint H2Global auction, both countries would each provide up to €200 million. These funds will be used to purchase hydrogen products in Australia via auction and then resell them, also via auction, in Germany. Both auctions will be conducted by Hint.Co GmbH in Leipzig. A letter of intent was signed in June by Stefan Rouenhoff, State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Energy, and Josh Wilson, Australia's Deputy Minister for Energy. The joint government subsidies are intended to offset the cost difference between higher purchase prices and lower selling prices. Negotiations, which have been ongoing since 2024, are nearly complete, and a tender design has been defined. Initial deliveries of renewable hydrogen, ammonia, or methanol are expected to begin in 2030.

At the "Rathrush Green Energy Park," NZE plans to produce hydrogen from surplus electricity in caverns for later reconversion into electricity and feed it into the grid. © Net Zero Energy (Screenshot)
(Ireland) Net Zero Energy (NZE) plans to invest two billion euros in the production of green hydrogen. According to an article in the Irish Times , the energy carrier will be stored in caverns for later use in electricity generation during periods of high demand, which will then be fed into the national grid. Surplus or unused electricity from renewable sources will be used for its production. The project, dubbed "Rathrush Green Energy Park," is planned for Rathrush, near Rathoe in County Carlow. Discussions are already underway with local residents and representatives of Carlow County Council. Tim Cowhig, CEO of NZE, intends to apply for planning permission before the end of the year.
