(Canada) Global Power Solutions Corp. has entered into a definitive agreement with Northern Hydrogen and Energy Ltd. to jointly develop and commercialize modular hydrogen systems. This was already anticipated in January when the companies signed a corresponding letter of intent ( as previously reported ). The plan is to develop a decentralized energy platform that produces hydrogen on-site. This platform is scalable from 80 kilowatts to several megawatts and could eventually be used at a utility scale, for example in data centers, remote industrial facilities, and off-grid power markets.

(Sweden) Swedish fuel cell manufacturer Power Cell AB is joining the EU project MiNaMi, which is researching Europe's first megawatt fuel cell system for maritime applications. The project aims to develop a modular PEM fuel cell system and power electronics suitable as building blocks for multi-megawatt systems with a capacity exceeding ten megawatts, enabling emission-free solutions for large ships and other high-performance applications. The goal is long-term operation for 80.000 hours and more than one million nautical miles at 12,5 knots. Power Cell's contribution to the project amounts to approximately €2,6 million until the end of 2028. The technology is designed to be transferable across sectors, including aviation. In addition to Power Cell Sweden AB, the companies involved include DFDS A/S, Vaisala Oyj, ABB Marine & Ports and Allengra Srl, as well as research organizations such as VTT, SINTEF, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) and the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK).

Plug Power plans to raise more than $275 million in liquidity for its hydrogen projects through asset sales. © Plug Power Inc.
(USA) Plug Power Inc. is raising capital through the sale of its stake in Project Gateway (located in New York) to Stream Data Centers LP, a data center developer and operator. Plug expects gross proceeds of "at least" $132,5 million, with a potential up to $142 million. The sale is expected to close by the end of June 2026. Plug Power originally planned to produce hydrogen at the site. "This transaction allows Plug to realize value from existing assets and maintain its focus on hydrogen production and fuel cell deployment," the company stated. Two other transactions are expected to be completed this year. Last November, Plug Power announced its intention to achieve total liquidity improvements of more than $275 million through a combination of asset monetization, cash release, and reduced maintenance costs. This transaction was also announced at the time, but without disclosing the buyer's name.

Three gas companies plan to explore the potential of green hydrogen on Ireland's west coast: Jarlath Trench (Managing Director of Vermilion Ireland), Tom O'Brien (CEO of Nephin Energy Group), and David Kelly (CEO of Gas Networks Ireland). © Gas Networks Ireland
(Ireland) Gas Networks Ireland and the Corrib joint venture, owned by Nephin Energy (43,5 percent) and natural gas supplier Vermilion Energy Group (56,5 percent), are collaborating on a green hydrogen pilot project at the Bellanaboy Bridge gas terminal in County Mayo (Connacht province) on the west coast of Ireland. The agreement aims to assess the potential for producing green hydrogen using renewable electricity and Corrib's existing energy infrastructure. A feasibility study will first be conducted to analyze the county's significant wind resources and Bellanaboy's connection to the national gas transmission network. Currently, Bellanaboy processes natural gas from the Corrib gas field off the coast, which can supply approximately 60 percent of Ireland's demand. Repurposing the Corrib infrastructure could foster high-quality regional employment and attract investors.

Researchers are working on a digital system designed to decarbonize energy-intensive mining processes and validate it in real-world operation. © RWE AG / Andre Laaks
(Germany) RWTH Aachen University, together with several partners at the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM), is developing a "digitalized, scalable, and sustainable hydrogen infrastructure" tailored to the requirements of the mining industry. The focus is primarily on the CO2-free energy supply of heavy mining vehicles using green hydrogen produced from treated mine water. "The entire hydrogen value chain, from production and storage to distribution and application in fuel cell vehicles, will be systemically integrated and physically implemented in the form of prototypes," the institute stated. The use of digital twins and AI-based control systems will optimize operation, efficiency, and costs. The goal is to "create a complete system that decarbonizes energy-intensive mining processes and is validated in real-world operation." The Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU and N+P Informationssysteme GmbH from Saxony are also involved in the project, which is led by PEM. The Nivelstein sand works and sandstone quarries, as well as the company HYDAC International, are acting as associated partners. The "DigHy" project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with an undisclosed amount of money, runs from March 1, 2026 to February 28, 2029.

(Canada) Green energy provider Everwind Fuels Co. is receiving a $175 million (€151 million) investment from US investor Nuveen Energy Infrastructure Credit (EIC) to expand its onshore wind portfolio by more than 650 megawatts. The funds will support the " Point Tupper Green Fuels " project in the province of Nova Scotia. The total investment required is more than $2 billion. The Indigenous consortium led by the Membertou First Nation holds the majority stake in Phase 1 wind projects. The annual output could power approximately 200.000 homes, but will primarily be used to produce green hydrogen and ammonia for export. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with commercial operation planned for 2028. Nuveen's "Energy Power Infrastructure Credit II" fund is financed by Canadian pension plans and insurance companies.

Daniela Schmitt, Minister of Economic Affairs for Rhineland-Palatinate, presented Stefan Wehner, President of the University of Koblenz, with a grant award of approximately €2,4 million from EU and state funds for the Hydrofuture project. © University of Koblenz / Felix Schlief
(Germany) The University of Koblenz has received approximately €2,4 million in funding for the "Hydrofuture" project of the Chair of Technical Chemistry and Corrosion Science. This funding will be used to investigate the use of hydrogen in energy-intensive industries such as the refractory industry, which has a strong presence in northern Rhineland-Palatinate. An experimental facility for researching the interactions between hydrogen atmospheres and refractory ceramic materials will be used to simulate new material developments for refractory linings under industrial process conditions, and the materials used will be characterized using subsequent evaluation methods. The results will serve as a basis for the manufacturing industry to "develop reliable material solutions for global competition." According to the university, the refractory industry based in Rhineland-Palatinate produces around one-third of all refractory materials manufactured in Europe. Approximately 70 percent of its products are supplied to the steel and metal industry.

(Germany) Since 2021, the German Federal Government has committed approximately €975 million in funding for international projects involving hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) technologies. Of this amount, around €486 million has already been disbursed. This information comes from the Federal Government's response ( 21/4166 ) to a parliamentary inquiry from the AfD parliamentary group. This funding includes the H2Global program, which aims to accelerate the market launch of green hydrogen through a dual-auction model, as well as bilateral agreements, for example with Canada.
