(Oslo / Norway) – Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser, a division of Norway's Nel ASA, has received an order from Spanish electricity supplier Iberdrola SA to supply a PEM electrolyser. The device has an output of 20 megawatts and, according to the company, the order volume is 13,5 million euros. Delivery is scheduled to take place this year.

Green hydrogen fertilizer

Iberdrola, together with the fertilizer manufacturer Fertiberia, announced in July 2020 that they wanted to jointly build a plant to produce green hydrogen. The location is the fertilizer factory in Puertollano, province of Ciudad Real in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. A photovoltaic system with an output of 100 megawatts and a battery storage system with a capacity of 20 megawatt hours are planned to generate electricity. Fertiberia uses the hydrogen generated using solar power in its ammonia production. The company can thus reduce its natural gas requirements by more than ten percent. In November, Iberdrola announced that it had chosen Nel as a supplier for the PEM electrolyzer (we reported).
