(Rochester, NY/USA) – Hyzon Motors Inc., a US provider of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, has signed a contract with the Austrian JuVe Automotion GmbH to supply 70 fuel cell-powered trucks. JuVe is a hydrogen spin-off from the Mpreis supermarket chain.
The first delivery is planned for the fourth quarter of 2021, with the remaining vehicles to be delivered over the course of three years. The first batch reportedly includes three different heavy-duty trucks and tractor-trailers and is designed to support refrigeration units.
According to the information, Mpreis is already installing charging stations for electric vehicles at many of its almost 300 locations and is currently building a plant for the production of green hydrogen near Innsbruck, as well as its own network of hydrogen filling stations.
The companies have also signed a declaration of intent to collaborate on the “H2Alpin” feasibility study. This is intended to show that fuel cell vehicles are suitable for the requirements of alpine mobility with steep gradients and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
Order of 20 trucks from the Netherlands
The announcement comes just days after two Dutch transport companies ordered 20 fuel cell trucks from Hyzon. The clients are Duurzaam Transport BV, a subsidiary of Jan Bakker BV, and H2 Transport BV, a subsidiary of Millenaar & van Schaik BV. The vehicles, HyMax 450 tractors, which, according to the company, are built on a DAF truck chassis, are at an engine output of 550 kW (747 hp) are expected to have a range of up to 520 kilometers per tank of fuel. The manufacturer wants to deliver three of the 50-ton trucks this year and the rest in 2022.
Jan Bakker counts 17 companies in the family of companies that operate in the areas of transport, energy and agricultural trade. Millenaar & van Schaik is one of the largest asphalt transport companies in the Netherlands.
Hyzon wants to process the two orders from Austria and the Netherlands at its European factory in Groningen, the Netherlands. As reported, Hyzon Motors Europe BV is already building hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles for the New Zealand company Hiringa Energy in a truck factory in Winschoten. Hyzon Motors Europe BV is a joint venture between Holthausen Clean Technology from Hoogezand and the American parent company Hyzon Motors.
In February, Hyzon Motors announced its merger with the Californian “Decarbonization Plus Acquisition Corporation” (DCRB). The combined company will be listed on the US technology exchange Nasdaq. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021.
