(Austin / USA) – Hyroad Energy has purchased 113 fuel cell trucks. The vehicles were acquired from the bankrupt Nikola Corp., which filed for bankruptcy in February of this year.
The acquisition includes 103 new tractor units, ten rental vehicles, web domains, and more, as well as the operational infrastructure required to operate and maintain the fleet. Hyroad will also build its own maintenance and parts facilities. The companies did not disclose the purchase price. According to media reports, the sum was $3,85 million (€3,4 million); the trading firm Gordon Brothers, which handled the auction, estimates the market value at $114 million.

The trucks will be used primarily in California, where Hyroad is developing a hydrogen refueling infrastructure for its customers. Hyroad also intends to offer support for all Nikola trucks already on the road, "to enable the continuity and growth of the hydrogen-powered truck market" in the United States.
The acquisition of the "Nikola Tre" will significantly expand Hyroad's fleet. "Typically, the introduction of new zero-emission technologies comes with risks," said Dmitry Serov, CEO and founder of Hyroad Energy. "This acquisition significantly advances Hyroad's ability to offer turnkey hydrogen trucking solutions."
Hyroad offers zero-emission Class 8 fuel cell trucks (over 15 tons) and leases the vehicles as a "truck-as-a-service." Billing is based on the number of kilometers driven, thus eliminating acquisition costs and additional infrastructure investments for customers. It is a trademark of Austin, Texas-based Simoneta Ltd.

In April, electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Group, Inc., acquired several facilities and assets of Nikola Corporation, including Nikola's former manufacturing facility in Coolidge, Arizona, and its headquarters and product development center in Phoenix, Arizona; however, it explicitly excluded the fuel cell truck business. The buildings expanded Lucid's Arizona site by approximately 884.000 square meters. Both locations are located near the Lucid factory in Casa Grande.
