(Jönköping / Sweden) – The Norwegian developer and operator of hydrogen filling stations Hynion AS wants to build more hydrogen filling stations in Sweden. The latest project near two truck parking spaces also includes the construction of a hydrogen production facility.
According to the information, Hynion and the municipality of Jönköping have now signed a lease agreement for a property in the logistics area of Torsvik, south of Jönköping. The hydrogen filling station with a capacity of 1.500 kilograms per day is designed for heavy vehicles, but cars can also refuel there. Completion is scheduled for this year.
Good strategic location
Torsvik is reportedly Sweden's fastest growing logistics area with a strategic location on the E4 between the capitals of Scandinavia. Several large companies such as IKEA, Elgiganten, DHL and PostNord have built warehouses there.
In the Jönköping region there are also many companies with large vehicle fleets that have already shown interest in switching to fossil-free vehicles, including Toyota Material Handling. The Toyota subsidiary is developing forklifts powered by fuel cells.
Plot in Västerås also secured
Hynion has also signed the land contract for the site in Västerås. The station is being built at the “Stop128” truck rest area. It is a “modern rest area with fenced parking spaces, direct connection to the E18, a restaurant, several gas stations and a workshop with a wash bay.”

This truck stop is “a natural hub for commercial heavy traffic in Västerås” and is close to the central warehouse of ICA, a Swedish food retail group. In the region there, as in Jönköping, there are many companies that operate a large vehicle fleet and have already shown interest in switching to fossil-free vehicles.
The municipality of Västerås was involved in the selection process and supported the project. The work would now be intensified with the application for building permits and other necessary approvals for the future operation of Hynion.
In July 2022, Hynion received a grant of 61,4 million crowns (5,41 million euros) from the Swedish Energy Agency to build two hydrogen filling stations. In September last year, the company announced that it had commissioned the US manufacturer of high-pressure membrane compression systems PDC Machines Inc. to supply compressors for hydrogen filling stations in Västerås and Jönköping.
