(Düren / Germany) – HyDN GmbH plans to build and operate a hydrogen production facility in the Düren district of North Rhine-Westphalia. The Brainergy Park Jülich has been named as the location. HyDN is a joint venture between the specialty gas manufacturer Messer Industriegase GmbH and the Düren district ("DN"). It was specifically founded in 2022 to plan, build, and operate the new production plant in the industrial park.

The electrolyzers have a nominal output of ten megawatts and a production capacity of 180 kilograms of green hydrogen per hour. The yield will primarily be used to operate fuel cell buses. According to the information, five of these vehicles are already in use in the Düren district. 2024 more will follow by November 20.
"This is an important strategic project for Messer Industriegase, because in addition to producing air gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and argon, we will also have direct access to green hydrogen from 2025," says Peter Laux, Managing Director of Messer Industriegase. The company is not only involved in the engineering of the plant, but will "take over the operation of the plant in the long term and distribute the green hydrogen."
Commissioning autumn 2025
The company Neuman & Esser GmbH from Aachen is to supply two PEM electrolyzers and two membrane compressors to compress the hydrogen. Messer will take care of its storage, filling and quality assurance. Commissioning is scheduled for autumn 2025. The construction is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure with around 14,7 million euros. The total investment is 35 million euros.
Messer has more than 11.500 employees and offers gases and services in Asia, Europe and America. The company was founded in 1898 and is majority owned by the Messer family. In 2023, sales amounted to 4,4 billion euros.
