(Jänschwalde) – Hy2gen AG wants to build a plant for the production of green hydrogen and environmentally friendly aircraft fuel (Sustainable Aviation Fuel, SAF) on a former airfield in Jänschwalde, Brandenburg. The project, called “Jangada,” is expected to go into operation in 2027.

According to the Wiesbaden company, the first project phase is now starting with a feasibility study with the property owner Euromovement Industriepark GmbH. Preparatory work on the site is then scheduled to begin in 2023, with completion scheduled for 2027 with an initial electrolyzer capacity of 123 megawatts. The total investment volume amounts to around 500 million euros.

Economic impulses for Brandenburg

Jörg Steinbach, Minister of Economics and Energy for the State of Brandenburg, hopes for “important impulses for structural development in Lusatia” and for Brandenburg as a technology and business location. The Bavarian company Energy4future GmbH (E4F) also wants to settle in the former industrial area known as the “Green Area Lausitz” (GRAL) with the former Cottbus-Drewitz military airfield.

The business park is intended to primarily attract companies that produce sustainably and CO209-neutrally on an area of ​​2 hectares. Around 35 percent of the area is intended for the generation of renewable energy, and a connection to the Deutsche Bahn freight transport network is also planned.

Hy2017gen AG, founded in 2, develops, finances, builds and operates plants worldwide for the production of green hydrogen and hydrogen-based e-fuels. In February, the company announced plans to build a green ammonia production facility in the community Sale on the southwest coast of Norway. The owners also include the raw materials trading company Trafigura Group Pte. Ltd. and the investor Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024 and commissioning will take place at the beginning of 2027.

In July last year, Hy2gen announced plans to partner with Trafigura Study on the ammonia requirements of the shipping industry. This will, among other things, examine aspects for large-scale commercial deployment, including the quantities of green ammonia required and the transport and storage capacity required.
