(Paris, France) - The French company Hopium has presented the first prototype of its hydrogen-powered sedan. The vehicle, called “Hopium Māchina Alpha 0” and manufactured in the test workshop in Linas-Montlhéry, was able to be further developed through tests on the test bench and on the track. The maximum speed is 200 kilometers per hour and is “already approaching the performance” that the development team expects from the final form.

At the same time, the company opened its order book to sell the first 1.000 numbered units. Based on the spectral line of hydrogen, the reservation price was set at 410 euros, with a final price of 120.000 euros according to the website. Technical details were not mentioned. The next presentation is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.

The founder of Hopium is Olivier Lombard, the youngest winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In May, Hopium and French automotive plastic component supplier Plastic Omnium signed a partnership to develop the Māchina hydrogen storage system. The high-end hydrogen car was announced in October 2020 and is set to be launched in 2026 as the first French hydrogen-powered sedan. In January the company presented an initial design concept (we reported).

The car will be equipped with a 700 bar Type IV tank, manufactured by Plastic Omnium at its factory in Herentals (Belgium). According to the company, this is a composite high-pressure vessel that is reinforced with a carbon fiber jacket. The vehicle should be able to travel 1.000 kilometers on one tank of fuel.
