(Berlin) - The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) have started the “H2 Compass” project. It is intended to serve as the foundation for the development of a “hydrogen roadmap”. The aim is to structure and bundle data and facts in order to show progress in hydrogen innovations, according to the ministries, but also to show where there is still a need for action in order to reduce hurdles.
Germany should become climate neutral by 2045. To achieve this, production facilities for green hydrogen, as well as the infrastructure for hydrogen distribution and storage as well as its use in industrial processes and other areas of application, must be set up. The creation of the roadmap is intended to make innovation steps and the need for action transparent with the participation of the hydrogen economy.
“H2 Compass” is carried out by the German Academy of Engineering Sciences (Acatech) and the Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology eV (DECHEMA). Also involved is the National Hydrogen Council, which the federal government has set up as an advisory body for the National Hydrogen Strategy, as well as the Hydrogen Research Network with around 1.000 members from business and science.
The project is part of the implementation of the National Hydrogen Strategy, runs for two years and is funded by the federal government with 4,2 million euros.
