(Reußenköge) – The North Frisian GP Joule GmbH is expected to order 100 Nikola Tre trucks with hydrogen fuel cell drive (FCEV) from the American Nikola Corporation. These are US Class 8 vehicles with a permissible total weight of around 15 tons. The companies announced that a corresponding declaration of intent has now been signed. In addition, it was agreed that GP Joule will market additional tractor units with fuel cell drives to customers in Europe from 2026 and supply them with green hydrogen at its own filling stations.
Trucks are built in Ulm
The trucks in the European 6×2 variant are manufactured at the Ulm production plant Joint Ventures produced by Nikola and the Iveco Group. The first 30 units are scheduled to be delivered in 2024, the remaining in 2025. Iveco provides maintenance and services via its service and workshop network. GP Joule will make the 100 tractor units available to its transport and logistics customers, according to a statement.
However, the order is still subject to funding from the federal program “Guideline on the funding of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-friendly drives and the associated refueling and charging infrastructure for electrically powered commercial vehicles” of the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility.
