(Sabugo / Portugal) – The Irish-based technology company Fusion Fuel Green Plc will receive grants totaling 36 million euros from Portugal for its “Sines Green Hydrogen Valley Alliance”. Of the funding, 22,5 million euros will flow into the “H2 Hevo Sines” project, which consists of 3.000 off-grid electrolyzers called “Hevo Solar” with a total output of 75 megawatts.
Fusion Fuel has already secured 121 hectares of land in the Sines area on the country's west coast south of Lisbon for its development, which is expected to be operational in 2024, the company said. The green hydrogen to be produced will be used for the decarbonization of local industry, for mobility applications and for feeding into the natural gas network.
A further 3,5 million euros will be made available to Fusion Fuel to finance research and development of the company's own electrolysis technology. The rest of the funds are used for other projects.
According to Pedro Caçorino Dias, commercial director of Fusion Fuel in Portugal, this is “the largest allocation to date by the Portuguese government under the National Economic Recovery Plan”. For the company, it is further progress “in our flagship Sines portfolio”. It is assumed that the first two phases in Sines, each with an electrolysis output of twelve megawatts, will be completed in 2023.
