(Catfish / Austria) – According to its own information, the Austrian Fronius International GmbH is building “the first H2 customer plant in Austria”. In the future, the SAN Group will be able to produce up to 100 kilograms of hydrogen per day using the system called “Solhub” at the company location in Herzogenburg (Lower Austria).
According to Martin Hackl, Global Director of Fronius' Solar Energy Business Unit, green hydrogen is produced and stored directly on site using solar power and water. This can be used to refuel vehicles, and once electricity has been converted back into electricity, the solar power is available around the clock, even in winter.
The hydrogen will be used for the SAN Group's fleet and can also be used by partners in the region. The proceeds could be used to fuel around 16 passenger cars or drive more than 1.500 bus or truck kilometers.
A 1,5 megawatt photovoltaic system on the roofs of the SAN Group's own business park is used to supply the electrolyzer. The energy concept also includes the use of waste heat for the entire SAN Group location. The hydrogen plants are scheduled to be commissioned in spring 2022.
Fronius International has locations in Wels, Thalheim, Steinhaus and Sattledt. According to its own information, the company has 5.660 employees and is active in the areas of welding technology, photovoltaics and battery charging technology. As a next step, Fronius plans to set up a hydrogen competence center in Steinhaus, Upper Austria.
