(Herning / Denmark) – The European Commission has granted IPCEI status to the HySynergy project led by Everfuel A/S - it is now considered an "Important Project of Common European Interest", enabling public financing of the second phase of the HySynergy plant, with Crossbridge Energy A/S is developed.
The first phase is a 20 megawatt electrolyser Fredericia, Denmark, which, as reported, is expected to produce the first hydrogen at the end of this year. The location is immediately next to a refinery operated by Crossbridge. Now granted IPCEI status, HySynergy's second phase will add 100 megawatts of capacity to the existing facility in three 300 megawatt sections. The public funds associated with the status are intended for the construction of the first 100 megawatts.
Large-scale production of green hydrogen
HySynergy aims to produce large quantities of green hydrogen to be used by the neighboring refinery as well as at Everfuel filling stations. When presenting the Project in May 2021 it was said that 80 percent of the yield was intended for fuel refining and 20 percent for emission-free mobility.
The project was shortlisted by the Danish government last year as one of two Power-to-X projects in the country. The Danish government has provided a total of 850 million crowns (114 million euros) for this purpose. As part of the second IPCEI round last week, the Commission approved public funding of up to 5,2 billion euros for thirteen Member States to support research, innovation and the development of infrastructure in the hydrogen value chain.
