(Herning / Denmark) – The Danish Everfuel A/S and the Scandinavian taxi company Cabonline Group Holding AB want to advance the development of the market for zero-emission mobility in collaboration with Toyota Norge. According to the information, Toyota will initially deliver around 100 “Mirai” vehicles to build a hydrogen-powered taxi fleet in the Oslo region (Norway).

Hundreds of hydrogen taxis for Scandinavia

Cabonline will offer taxi license holders incentives to use fuel cell vehicles, and those participating in this roll-out will benefit from discounted prices for hydrogen at Everfuel refueling stations. Toyota has already begun preparations to deliver the “Mirai” in large numbers by the end of 2022. According to Dag Kibsgaard-Petersen, CEO of Cabonline Group and managing director of Norgestaxi, the city of Oslo wants 20 percent of the approximately 2.500 taxis to run on hydrogen.

In the coming years, Cabonline even plans to “introduce several hundred hydrogen taxis across the Nordic region”; initially at least in the larger Norwegian cities, as soon as Everfuel has built up the filling station network. The companies plan to expand to other cities in Scandinavia in the same way. Cabonline has 4.400 vehicles in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark and offers its services under a number of brand names.

Everfuel offers complete solutions for hydrogen supply and refueling. Headquarters are in Herning, Denmark, and business activities include Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. In April, Everfuel presented plans according to which the company wants to build up to 2023 hydrogen filling stations in Sweden by the end of 15. The network will include both self-developed locations and filling stations from the “Nordic Hydrogen Corridor” initiative, a cooperation with Statkraft, Toyota, Hyundai and Hydrogen Sweden.

For Toyota, the taxi project is “an international strategy for building up the hydrogen market,” says Espen Olsen, General Manager PR at Toyota Norway. According to Everfuel founder Jacob Krogsgaard, the cooperation is a good example of “connecting the entire hydrogen value chain from production, distribution and refueling to vehicle providers and end users” to enable the commercialization of green hydrogen as a fuel.
