(Fredericia / Denmark) – Everfuel A/S and Crossbridge Energy A/S have broken ground for the power-to-X power plant called “HySynergy”. According to the information, it is “the largest of its kind in Europe”. The first phase includes a 20 megawatt electrolyzer and is scheduled to be completed by summer 2022.

In a second phase, it is planned to expand the system to 300 megawatts. “By 2025, HySynergy will enable an annual reduction of up to 500.000 tons of carbon emissions from the mobility sector and industry,” said Everfuel CEO Jacob Krogsgaard. This means a reduction of up to eleven percent. The Danish government wants to reduce CO2 emissions by 2030 percent by 70.

With HySynergy, the production of green hydrogen in Denmark will be significantly expanded, the company said. After completion, the largest buyer will be Crossbridge Energy A/S, refinery operator and owner of the site. “As early as the first hydrogen production, fossil fuels are replaced by green fuels,” explained Managing Director Finn Schousboe. “We can immediately use the green hydrogen in the refinery, which today covers 35 percent of Denmark’s fuel consumption.”

HySynergy is one of six Danish projects nominated to take part in the European green hydrogen project IPCEI (Important Project of Common European Interest). In addition to Everfuel and Crossbridge Energy, the energy conglomerate EWII Group, the utilities Trefor, Aktive Energi Anlæg A/S and Tvis are also involved. Energinet, operator of gas and electricity transmission networks, will store the green hydrogen.
