(Berlin, Germany) – Berlin-based Enapter AG is currently receiving a number of orders for electrolyzers in Germany, the USA, Canada, and France. The company recently received an order from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) for an "AEM Nexus 500." This 500-kilowatt device combines several anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolysis stacks in a single container to create a complete system capable of producing approximately 225 kilograms of hydrogen per day with a purity of 99,999 percent.

KIT uses AEM Nexus 500 for “Energy Lab”

The electrolyzer will be used at the Karlsruhe site for the “Energy Lab”, a joint project of KIT in cooperation with the Helmholtz Centers, the German Aerospace Center and the Jülich Research Center. The project involves “research into the intelligent combination of environmentally friendly energy generation, storage and supply options”.

In addition, energy systems of the future will be simulated and tested there on the basis of real consumer data with the aim of improving the transport, distribution, use and storage of electricity. The energy source will be used for various test scenarios for sector coupling and will supply several pilot plants with green hydrogen. The Energy Lab is funded by the Federal Ministries of Education and Research, Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg.

Nexus 500 also for Canada

In addition, Enapter has received another order for an AEM Nexus 500 from Canada. There, the hydrogen will be used in the “Clean Hydrogen Hub” research project at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, and will be used by local industry and researchers.

The aim is also to make the public more aware of the topic of hydrogen and to inform them about its potential and structures, as well as to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in British Columbia through its use. The AEM Nexus 500 is scheduled to go into operation in the fourth quarter of 2025. The research project is being funded with ten million Canadian dollars (6,7 million euros) by, among others, the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, a federal economic development agency for British Columbia under the umbrella of the Canadian government.

AEM Nexus 1000 for the USA

Orders have also been received in the USA. Clean H2 Inc., a subsidiary of the US sales partner of Enapter products, received an order for electrolyzers with a capacity of 2,3 megawatts worth 5,4 million dollars (4,9 million euros).

The contracts included the delivery, integration and first-level support of two AEM Nexus 1000 and a number of EL 4 electrolyzers. The AEM devices from these contracts would be used in heavy-duty transport and aviation.

In France, Enapter has also expanded its activities and signed contracts for more than 270 AEM electrolyzers. "Demand for our single-core electrolyzer AEM EL 4 is growing in France, with an increase in order volume of around 330 percent compared to the first quarter of the previous year," the company announced. Contract partners there are PowiDian Energy with an order for 176 AEM EL 4 devices, Corsica Sole with 63 units and H2Gremm with 40 units.
